For Awa Families.

Our Hall Space.

We're excited to share with you the development of the new Awa Kāinga in our hall space. The adjacent hall plan indicates the doors for home spaces that your children will enter each day. We know you will love the opportunities this new space will provide.

When does building work start, and how will it affect children?

We are pleased to share that we have had some great progress in our build project. Whenua are due to move out of the hall, and back into their new home beginning of Term 3. As a result, the Awa build project is able to gain momentum, and the whole of the current Awa Kāinga buildings will move within the building work zone. Due to health and safety management requirements we will need to relocate the teachers and children from this area while this work is completed, and the whole Kāinga will relocate to occupy all of the spaces in our current Hall complex from the beginning of Term 3.

When will work be completed?

We are anticipating that Awa Kāinga will be in their new building by the end of the school year.

How will the Hall space be utilised for learning?

We have thought carefully about how this will be managed and with the support of the Ministry of Education, the spaces have been modified to best accommodate the needs of the children. The hall complex has two classroom spaces which have been used as full classrooms in the past. The body of the hall has been carpeted and partitioned to provide a range of flexible learning areas.

Awa teachers have worked closely with Whenua teachers to learn from their experiences over the last 3 terms and reflect upon the best use of the hall space to meet the needs of our students.

A draft plan of the modifications included in this information is above. We are working hard now and over the holiday period to be ready from day 1 next term. We also hope we will be in a position to invite you in at the end of the holidays to view the space before the children start.

When will we be communicated with, and where is my child within this space?

We know this change will be both exciting and challenging at the same time on all different levels. Some children and parents will take this in their stride and for some it will cause some anxiety.

We will ensure we communicate all information we know before your child comes back to school in Term 3. This will include where each class group will enter the hall, where bags will be stored, where bikes and scooters will be parked, the toileting arrangements and what happens in each part of the hall complex.

Each collaborative class will have their own home space and some flexible shared spaces as they do currently. We will talk to your children this week to give them as much detail of the move as we can before the holidays and then more information will come your way over the break.
