Rebuild start date.

We are finally very pleased to be able to confirm that the Ministry of Education have delivered a letter of intent to Brosnan Construction indicating their intent to engage the company for stage 1 of our school redevelopment. This has been a long drawn out process and we are very glad to see the beginning of this work albeit now within a very short time frame to commencement date.

The intended start date for Stage 1 is Monday 4th October - this is in the upcoming school holidays.

We have not been certain of this work commencing but especially since returning to school in Level 3 we have been working hard to ready ourselves. As I mentioned we have been working hard on our Maree Kondo skills and have had a very serious de-clutter.

What happens now?

The first stage includes the following work:

  • Demolition of current admin block and staffroom

  • Re-purposing of the current library as the new administration area and staffroom

  • Remodeling the front space of Rangi to house the Library

  • Demolition of the toilet blocks in Whenua, building an extension to Whenua and refitting all Whenua main block classrooms

How will we continue to operate during this build phase?

  • The office will operate from the relocatable room closest to the big tree on the field (previously Room 18 or IN room)

  • The Health room will occupy the small office next to this admin space (previously the ESOL room)

  • The Staffroom will operate out of the relocatable room at the other end of this same block (previously room 19)

  • Whenua Kāinga will operate from the hall using all of the hall spaces available - this includes the Music room, the Glenda Harding room, the stage, the foyer and the main body of the hall - there is a plan for fitting the hall spaces out with carpet and partitioned walls in order to clearly define learning spaces

  • Our school hall will be out of action for whole school events however we have arranged for alternative venues for some of our important term events in Term 4 2021 and Term 1 2022

  • Our library resource - both books and people have been disseminated in part into each Kāinga so we can still have some access to library books through the villages

How long will this work take?

The current plan provided there are no unscheduled interruptions is for the completion of:

  • Administration block and new Library space by the end of Term 4 2021

  • Whenua block by the end of Term 1 2022

Other works.

Stage 2 which includes the removal of some of our relocatable buildings and the replacement of Awa is due to commence in Term 1 2022:

  • All work is aiming to be completed in a 12 - 18 month period

The Administration Block

The temporary location of our school office.

The office will operate from the relocatable room closest to the big tree on the field (previously Room 18 or IN room).
